Apart from providing pest control services we also specialise in sub-floor building ventilation. As this is a composite part of pest control we feel that in order to provide an overall quality service its something we must provide to our clientele. Not only does it prevent fungi from forming but good sub-floor ventilation will dramatically reduce termite infestations from forming due to the lack of moisture which their favor.
Benefits of good ventilation
- Timber floors to warp, bow and rot
- Mould growth on furniture, clothes, shoes, walls ceilings and in cupboards
- Damp musty smells
- Implications for asthma and allergy sufferers
- Termites love damp dark sub-floor areas to breed and build their tracks up into your home to feed on the timber in your floors walls.
- Reduction in potential disease and allergies related to airborne fungal spores such as: histoplasmosis, blastomycosis, and aspergillosis, a variety of respiratory diseases including asthma, allergic rhinitis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, bronchial hyperactivity and acute toxicosis.
There are a number of ways which a subfloor can’t be ventilated. The main decision factor comes down to cost. A budget approach would be simply brick vents that would relace a full brick. The number of vents and location would be determined depending on the size of the subfloor area and access. Brick vents come in different styles, colours and sizes so it’s easy to blend into existing brick work.

A more sophisticated and effective way of ventilation the subfloor would be the use of electric fans. This system is designed to exhaust damp trapped air from the sub-floor and introduce fresh air in through existing or new passive vents. Fans are run off a 12 volt transformer and timer.
